Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies they go to Rainbow Bridge.  There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.  Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent.  His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

memorial stoneSome families have expressed interest in memorials for their lost kitties. One idea is to purchase a memorial stone. Artistic Etching is an example of a company that offers custom stones for reasonable prices.

Abner was an athletic young kitten with lots of promise. He loved to run and jump, playing with the other kittens and toys. Unfortunately, his life was cut short by suspected panleukopenia (feline distemper). We will miss little Abner.

Alicia was a very sweet young kitten. She succumbed to pneumonia as a symptom of the virulent calicivirus that is vaccine resistent. Alicia did not give up easily, but it was more than she could bear. May she rest in peace.

Allstate Pallets - 1
This little kitten did not survive long enough to be given a real name - he is still known by his rescue ID. This is not to say that he was not loved by the people who rescued him but only that they had more important things to do trying to save him than to stop and think of an appropriate name. He was a little fighter, but had been abandoned by the mother cat who was too young to know how to take care of her babies. We will see that she gets spayed so she will not have any more kittens - then she will be allowed to live out her life at the pallet yard where she has a good job as a "mouser."

Angel Eyes
Angel Eyes was rescued in June of 2010. What a handsome and very sweet boy. He had huge golden eyes and a beautiful black and smokey coat. This kitten (approx 6 months of age) was a complete lover – and what a surprise after the way he had been treated in his short life as a stray.

Angel was a bit sickly and underweight at the time of his rescue which is not all that unusual. Our vet found that he had a heart murmur and what seemed to be an enlarged heart. What he found with x-rays took us all by surprise – Angel had a BB pellet embedded in his lower chest! Not only that, but the x-rays showed a clear path that the pellet had taken. Shot from above, it traveled down through Angel’s spine and lungs, nicking the trachea on the way. No wonder he was in the shape he was in.

Our foster home spent several trips to the vet and long hours nursing Angel Eyes. At one point he seemed to be improving, but there was a constant battle with recurring infections and overall the direction of his health was not good. His foster mom finally had to make the hardest decision one can ever make – to end this poor kitten’s suffering. I am sure everyone feels the way I do and shares in her grief. Rest in Peace Angel Eyes.

Anna was a sweet young kitten rescued from a local elementary school and adopted into a loving home. Unfortunately, she developed a congenital kidney disease and was euthanized due to her fragile body's inability to sustain life.

Anna was not yet 6 months old at the time of her death and her family was only able to enjoy her delightful company for a very short time. They did everything they could and she put up a good fight, but it was just too much for her in the end. Her family feels honored and very lucky to have been able to call her their own and they loved her completely everyday that they had her in their lives. She will truly be missed by all of us.
