HOME for the HOLIDAYSGiftCat

It's All About the Cats does not encourage people to give pets as gifts because pet adoption is a life-long commitment. Rather, if you are thinking about giving someone a pet as a gift, consider instead a Pet Promise Gift Certificate.

With the Pet Promise Certificate, your loved one can adopt the pet that best suits his or her lifestyle -- and you promise to cover the adoption fees for the new family member. In addition, the Certificate features a New Adopter's Pledge that promotes responsible pet parenting.

How It Works:

  1. Download and print the Pet Promise Certificate from Petfinder.
  2. Give the Certificate to your loved one along with a sample pet item, such as a cat carrier or a dog leash.
  3. If the recipient is ready for the commitment of a new pet, he or she should sign the New Adopter's Pledge.
  4. Search our adoptable cat list to find just the right pet, then contact us to about adopting.

sally - senior catSenior Cats Need Homes

Six senior cats need homes immediately. These cats were orphaned when a local hero died last March. They are being offered for adoption via Orange County Animal Services as part of their Seniors For Seniors program which waives all adoption fees for people over 55 who adopt a cat over 8 years of age.

See our flyer for more information.

Cat Sanctuary Closed - Cats Need Rescue

As many people already know, the 10th Life No-Kill Cat Sanctuary closed recently. At the time of closing, there were approximately 450 cats in residence. In the past three weeks, 15 rescue groups, animal shelters and individuals transferred nearly 300 cats. This took care of all the friendly cats, including those infected with FeLV or FIV.

There are approximately 150 cats remaining that need to be relocated. These are feral or very shy cats, but they deserve a chance to live anyway and require very little maintenance. The University of Florida is offering to arrange transportation if anyone can provide one or more of these cats with an enriched outdoor habitat, colony or barn to live out their days. If you think you can help, we encourage you to sumbit an animal transfer request asap.

Foster Homes Needed

We found a foster home for the kittens dumped at a local elementary school (watch for them on our website coming soon - names Cooky, Cream & Wasabee). The kittens are healthy and are doing quite well in foster care.

However, we have a foster home that is over capacity at this time and would love to have some relief. These are older kittens in the 6 - 8 months of age range. They need more personalized attention than they can get at this time.

If you are interested in fostering some of these kittens, please contact us. Keep in mind:

Fostering is a family commitment. Everyone in the household needs to agree on it.

Fostering can be time consuming. Kittens must go to appointments for vaccines, meds and eventually spay/neuter. The foster home is responsible for transporting. In addition, there are routine meds that must be given by the foster home and of course there is cleaning up messes.

Fostering is not free. We can provide some supplies that are needed. And we provide all medical care. But you may incur some costs for food or litter.

Fostering can break your heart. It can be painful to say goodbye to your kittens when they are adopted, BUT, fostering can be THE MOST rewarding and fulfilling thing a true cat lover will ever do to support our shelter cats!

If you are still interested in fostering, please review the following questions to see if you meet our qualifications:

  • Do you have an area where you can keep the kittens isolated from your own companion animals - at least until their vaccines are complete (4 weeks or more)?
  • Do you have a flexible schedule that allows time for routine veterinary exams and vaccinations, as well as any emergencies that may occur?
  • Can you commit enough time to socialize the kittens (at least an hour every day)?
  • Can you enter into a legal contract (at least 18 years old)?
  • Do you own your home? If you rent, are you are permitted to have pets?

If you answered yes to all these questions, and are interested in fostering the four kittens, please print and complete our foster care agreement and submit via email to itsaboutcats@rescuegroups.org or fax (407-812-6468).
